Converting my FLAC collection to Apple Lossless: help!

I have all my music in FLAC but consider going for Mac/Itunes in the living room.

If I convert everything to Apple Lossless, will all tags stay in tact?

I did a couple of test conversions, the file extention becomes .m4a with ALAC codex. Is that the correct one?
