5.1 output files

Sys: Vista HP, 64bit.

How to get 5.1 channels on output MP3s?

When i convert mp3's to wav, I can see the number
of channels says "6 (5.1 surround)" in the output infomation.

When I convert an MP3 or wav to MP3 the number of
channels remains at "2 (stereo)" regardless of the DSPs
used. Setting the Channel count and/or channel mapper
to 6 (5.1 surround) will result in the same "2 stereo"
shown in the Channels line but the playback is through
all 5 speakers.

Is this a bug?

mp3sare only 2 channel unless they are the not-widely-supported fraunhofer surround sound mp3 files (which dbpoweramp cannot decode).
