    Problem with merged mp3 files

I have created one long mp3 audiobook file from several shorter mp3 files using Mp3Merge, so that I can then convert it into one m4b file for use on an Ipod. DbPoweramp does not seem to be able to handle the resulting file. The merged file is 1 hour in length. Windows Media Player can open it and play the whole file, recognising the length correctly. Mp3Tag also recognises the correct length. When I look at the file properties in Windows Explorer, the correct duration is shown. However, the "Audio Properties" tab, which is installed by dBPoweramp, says that the track is only 2mins 59seconds, which is the length of the first of the original files which were merged into one large file. When I try to convert the 60 minute file into m4b format using dbPoweramp Converter, the resulting m4b file is only 2mins 59secs long, and when I listen to it, it is in fact the first of the merged files.

I have done this process many times before without any difficulty, but now I am 1000miles from home using a different computer, and I can't get it to work!!! I am using DbPoweramp 13 and Windows XP. Can anyone tell me how I can get dBPoweramp to recognise the whole file??? I have tried uninstalling dbPoweramp and going through the whole installation process again, but it hasn't made any difference.

That is because we have gapless decoding, which uses the header file in the mp3 file which says how many samples there are - if the joining program is simply adding the 2nd mp3 file to the end and leaving the header then it is invalid.

Thanks for the information - Is there anything I can do about this? Is there any way of cleaning up the headers? I'm afraid I don't know anything about this so my questions will be very basic.

how about converting the mp3 files to wav, joining them and then converting the joined wav to m4b?
