WMA to AAC kbps advice please

    Hi

I've just bought my girlfriend an ipod for christmas. She has a load of cds burnt onto her computer in WMA format kbps. If I convert this to AAC do I still just pick 128kbps? I realise completely that you can't increase a lossy format so in theory converting it above 128aac is pointless right?

Most ideal would be to reburn the cds directly into itunes I suspect, but with hundreds of cds, not necessarily the most practical!!

    Any advice greatly welcomed, thanks

No, each time you encode to lossy you loose quality, lower the bitrate the more quality is lost. When you encoded your wma quality is lost (gone forever), but also encoding to aac looses quality so a high bit rate will lose less quality than lower (obviously the file would have less quality than a CD >> AAC at the same bit rate).
