MP3 decoder problem for some tracks?

    Hi,

Probably this has not been changed (I tried this a while
ago and the issue seems to be same as of current version
of converter). The problem is when I try to convert
MP3 file (sample attached, original is 128k CBR, I cut it to show
the problem) to any other, say Nero M4A, say quality 0.45 etc.
I got very distorted output from dbpoweramp converter,
I currently use 13.1., but was same in the previous versions.

I tried same conversion to Nero AAC or Lame MP3 in Winamp
and Foobar2000 there was no problem. I suspect MP3 decoder in
dbpoweramp may be problem in some cases? Could you please
look at what is going on with MP3 decoder?

Hmm, It seems to me that I cannot attach the sample mp3
file (less than 10 sec), how can I post this sample? Or email to?

    Thanks,
    csp

If you convert it to wave then play the wave it will point to the decoder or not.

      Hi Spoon,

Yes, I tried the problem MP3 to WAV in dMC
and still I get the badly distorted output in "only" in dMC.
When I try to convert it to any format in dMC, still same,
so that's why I suspect the decoder.

As I said, if I use other front end, such as winamp, foobar200,
or itunes to convert to other format, it's fine. I think
you might want to try my sample.

      Thanks,
      csp

      PS -- I also tried
      (1) the problem MP3 to WAV in foobar2000
      (2) and convert the WAV to nero m4a in dMC
then it's fine. Means, again MP3 decoder issue
      in dMC?

I see you said the bitrate of the file was 128kbps, what was the frequency and channels of the mp3 file?

Hi, it's 44khz stereo cbr, it may be just easier if I can send this sample to you
(or post attachment), so that you guys can have a look. As I made a test small
sample (cut) from the source, which is less than 10 sec clip.

          Regards,

Hi, I just sent two files
              cut.mp3 (the problem file)
              and
              cut.m4a (converted in dMC)
which shows how output is distorted.

Hope you can find why it causes problems.

              Thanks,
              csp

                Looking at the files now.

First thing I notice is that playing the files on my system with Media Player Classic, both the mp3 and m4a, result in the same distorted output. However, Windows Media Player plays the fine just fine. Looking into it more.

As you said above, Winamp says file is 128kbps CBR and the file is 44.1KHz Joint stereo.

Nero's WaveEdit reads and plays the file fine, and if I save the mp3 you gave me to another mp3 file with the same settings, the file then plays and converts fine. So it appears there is an error in the file which dMC and Media Player Classic cannot decode properly. Where did this file come from?

                  Hi,

Can you play the MP3 file in WMP (not classic), Real Player,
iTunes, foobar2k, or winamp? In my case, non of them
show distortion for the original MP3, but converted with dMC
                  M4A file will.

I bought it from an online music store in
                  Korea (Bugs) last year.
