    Ogg to AAC Tag conversion

    Hi!

This subject has probably been discussed before, but I have not been able to find the answers by searching - so here I go...

I have a problem: My entire music collection is ripped (and tagged) in Ogg format - and my iPod doesn't play Ogg.
Solution: Convert all files to AAC using dBpoweramp/dMC.

    So far so good...

When I ripped the music and tagged it, I used Winamp where I manually entered information like artist, title, track number, album, year (actually Winamp uses the Oggtag "DATE" for this) and genre. These all seems to be converted to sensible tags when i view the AAC file in iTunes afterwards, but...

Problem: In iTunes I can provide further information about my tracks like "total number of tracks", "total number of discs", "sort name", "sort artist" etc. which are not supported by Winamp (out-of-the-box)...

Question: What Oggtag names should I use for these fields to make them appear correctly in iTunes (when the tracks have been converted to AAC)?

dBpoweramp will normally automatically map the correct tags (ie DATE to YEAR).

I am well aware of that - as I wrote:

As I stated later (and highlighted with bold) my question is:

As far as I am aware the "total number of discs" is part of the disc number tag i.e 1/2 in the same way that Track number can be 1 or 1/14.

Have you tried adding these "extra" tag information fields to a file from within iTunes and then checked using dMC to see how they are held?

Thanks - that works really kool for tracks and discs - but Winamp is kind of funny this way - when i type 01/01 in the disc# field in Winamps tageditor, it is stored correct in the DISCNUMBER tag, but Winamp doesn't display the information if I open the tageditor again - it is however still saved in the file though...
This does not apply to track# - 11/17 is correctly displayed when I reopen the tageditor...

About the "Sort XXX" fields that are available in iTunes - I tried to enter something in these fields in an AAC file, but when I convert to Ogg, this information seems to be completely discarded, so I can't seem to figure out what to label "Sort Name", "Sort Artist" tags in Ogg files tå make them appear correctly when the file is converted to AAC - any clues?

Oh yeah - when I convert an AAC (which has track number information as well as total number of tracks) to Ogg, dMC converts that to 2 Ogg tags (TRACKNUMBER and TOTALTRACKS) - which then again confuses Winamp, as it only recognizes TRACKNUMBER - the other one is present in the file, but not used by Winamp. However as I am not going to convert from AAC to Ogg on a regular basis, this is not really an issue for me - just a curiosity - that the tag conversion done by dMC is not a 1:1 mapping

TOTALTRACKS has become the standard for Ogg / FLAC (Sonos and Squeezebox use them).

I do believe you have the best intentions, but somehow you seem to keep popping up with random information about something I write. If you read the last paragraph closely, I think (hope) you will see, that I added this just as a curiosity - I have no interest in digging further into the use and standardization of TOTALTRACKS or whatever.

My question in the paragraph before is much more essential to me: Which tag-names should I use in my Ogg files to have the content of the tags converted properly to the AAC/iTunes tags called "Sort Name", "Sort Artist", "Sort Album" and all the other sort tags - can you help me here?

I do not know which tags iTunes uses for those.
