Tracknames cutting off during encoding in v12

    Hi,

Im ripping tracks from a CD in v12 and when I come to view the ID3 tags in Winamp, longer tracknames are cutting off and Im having to retype the ends of them. They are also appearing truncated in iTunes.

    Anyone know why?

    Thank you for your efforts.

What format are you encoding to? If mp3, what are your tag settings in dBpoweramp Configuration (See "need to find your version?" below).

I was encoding to MP3. I never touched the ID3 tag settings in advanced options, until today when I upgraded to v13. I set the MP3 tagging options to "ID3 v2 only", because for some reason, iTunes is now only reading the ID3 v1 tags (which cant hold as many characters per field). But its only doing this with some albums I ripped with v12, so Ive no idea why this would happen since I didnt touch the options originally.

Do I have to re-rip the dodgy MP3s with v13 to ensure iTunes will read them properly?

No, if you run the [ID Tag Update] utility codec and just add a tag of some sort, dMC will re-tag all the files with the current tagging settings, in your case ID3v2 only. Just add a comment tag that is just a period or something and that will update the tags without requiring any re-ripping or re-encoding.

Act like you are converting your files as normal. From the codec list, pick [ID Tag Update]. (If you don't see it, install it from Codec Central.)
Go to the "Additions" tab, click the "Add New" button, choose "Comment" from the drop down, and add some value: a period, a space, whatever. Then click "Convert" and let dMC add this tag and re-write the rest of your tag values.

Ah many thanks indeed. Your help is much appreciated, I had no idea such a "codec" add-on existed.

So with the dBpowerAmp configuration set to creating ID3 v2 tags only, I shouldnt have this issue again? Because iTunes 8 only reads the ID3 v1 tags and thats what was causing the issue.

              Thank you again, Data.

Setting dMC to ID3v2 only and doing the above steps makes dMC re-write the tags per its settings, which means only ID3v2 tags will be written.
