Converting audio from DVD to MP3 etc

If I have audio extracted from a DVD, with a frequency of 48kHz, would it be "bad" to choose 44.1kHz when converting to MP3 or other lossy formats? Presumably it would save a little on file size, but, theoretically, would it be doing serious damage to the quality?

    Thanks in advance.

Just make sure you've enabled Professional Frequency Conversion (SSRC) in the dbpoweramp Configuration application (third tab).

Is there a reason that isn't enabled by default in R13?

I think it's also only a Reference feature.
