    Ripping mono CDs to lossless

When ripping mono CDs to lossless, is it a good idea to use DSP to force 1 channel?

Otherwise, presumably identical information is encoded losslessly twice, once per channel, wasting a lot of space.

I would guess that most modern lossless codecs are very smart about how they most efficiently encode, so I would say its nothing to worry about.

You could however try force encoding to one channel. I don't know how compatible that may or may not be.
