    DSP - advice

Audio CD - what does this do exactly? does it remove the 'hiss' or high frequencys from silent parts that may just have basslines or silence in them? making the sound quality better?

is there any other handy DSP's i should be using and is there one that can adjust BPM? (speed up / slow down)

    thanks

Only a codec can reduce its own bitrate (say a VBR based encoder).
