Convert MI-SC4 compressed wav to uncompressed wav

Hi All,
I think this is my first post in the forum..anyway,

I am trying to convert a file created with an old mpman F35 player to a format that Nero will convert to cda for an audio CD.

The file is approx 2hrs 15 mins long and is saved as MI-SC4 (32kb/s 8000Khz) compressed PCM (Micronas Intermetall MI-SC4 Audio).

I can convert the file to almost any other format ..no probs..but in every case the converted file is only about 50% (1hr 5mins) of the original.

Any ideas why, would be very welcomed as this is rather urgent for a friend.

Hi Spoon,

Windows Media Player can play the full 2:15 file ok. Any conversion causes the file to be limited to 1:05 (WMPlayer can also play this uncompressed wav ok)

Its just the conversion that's the problem..??

If you hold the mouse over the file and it shows the file length (and says dBpoweramp at the bottom), does it show 1:05 or 2:15?

Yes the dBpoweramp conversion shows 1:05.
I have found that I can convert (save as) the original file in Goldwave if I stick with the parameters of the original file eg 8000hz 8bit and use unsigned PCM.
However, the file is very noisy, but the time length is correct.
When opening the original file with Goldwave, it does complain and says " Does not have a valid "fact" chuck, and the number of samples cannot be accurately determined" also "the file contains inconsistent length information" Goldwave offers to calculate based on file size. This is the same with all recordings done with this old mpman F35

I have also found that Windows Soundrecorder will convert it to PCM but this is even noisier!

It would seem that no matter what variation Wav I use in dBpoweramp the file is the wrong length, the sound quality is very good though possiblly because it resamples at 16bit and 128Kb/s

Sorry, forgot to mention, the ORIGINAL file (MI-SC4 format) does show 2:15 when examined with dBpoweramp (mouse pointer).

An invalid fact chunk would do as you describe above.

Thanks Spoon for confirming really what I suspected.

The file created with the old mp3 player (mpman F35) in MI-SC2 format is obviously not being formed properly even though it's decoder plays it ok. To try and convert it obviously requires some compensation in the format which for such an old format is not now viable.

I will just say that I did manage to get a full length conversion using Goldwave BUT only when I forced the parameters to 16 bit unsigned PCM 128kb/s which dMC chose when trying to convert it originaly, this was about the best quality as well.

In future I will use a format at least Nero recognises .. :smile2: thanks for all your help.
