My laptop was sent in to dell for warrantly repair and they replaced it with a new laptop - now I'm running on Vista... :-( I've tried to download all my old software (cd writer, etc.) and I'm unable to convert any codecs (.wma, .mp3, .ogg) to .cda and make an audio cd. I've reloaded software and checked the forums... I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Please help.

Re: Missing .cda encoder only
Hi,
Thank you so much for your help. When I un-installed my previous dbpa programs I was instructed to reboot, which I did, and my computer was racked with repairs for over an hour and ultimately restored to a previous version - including all my dbpa programs. The programs I have are dbpoweramp, music converter, and cd writer ... should I be uninstalling in any particular order? I assume this is Vista compatibility issues - and I'm afraid to uninstall again for fear that I'll be stung again with another hour of "repairs" only to end up back at the beginning again. Any suggestions?Comment

Re: Missing .cda encoder only
Why would rebooting take hours? your computer should be able to reboot without issues (this in its self might affect any programs you were to install, if you reboot).
Anyhow, R12 Music Converter is not compatible with the older cd writer, so install just the CD writer (which includes music converter).Comment

Re: Missing .cda encoder only
Thank you again for your assistance. I didn't want to bore you with my entire re-boot saga but since you asked... after uninstalling all my dba programs (through the control panel) I followed the instructions and allowed windows to restart my computer. After re-starting a screen popped up indicating my computer found serious errors during the last shut-down and it needed to perform "repairs" ... I initially selected to bypass this and open windows normally... but had to hard boot because my computer totally froze up. So restarting again I selected to have the repairs done. After the first 20 minutes of the computer seemingly to just sit there I tried to "cancel" but was told, via a dialogue box, that the action could not be cancelled. So I simply had to sit there while the computer was "repairing itself" ... when I eventually received a message that the errors were so serious that my computer was going to restore itself to an earlier version of itself prior to the errors. After doing so, my computer still had all the dbpa programs (which I previously removed). Perhaps I exaggerated the hour - but it was at least 45 painful minutes ... I, like you, am confused - and I'm coming to dislike Vista (and Dell) with a vengence.
I will try your suggestion. Thank you again - have a wonderful day. :komisch9:Comment
