Error Cannot Create Wave Decoder (CCITT u-Law)?

I'm just testing the dbpowramp music converter to see if it is worth spending any money on. So far it won't even convert a wav file to an mp3. When I attempt to convert a wav to an mp3 I get this error message:

    Error converting to mp3 (Lame),

Re: Error Cannot Create Wave Decoder (CCITT u-Law)?

It does not look like the current version of dBpowerAMP Music Converter is able to read and convert the non-standard type of Wave format (CCITT u-law) that you are trying to convert.

You can confirm whther this is, in fact, the source of your problem easily enough by trying a test conversion of your file. Test conversion is set up the same way as a regular conversion except that where your choose MP3 as your output format, select instead Test Conversion.

Alternately, you can try using the previous version of Music Converter (r11.5) to try to read and convert this type of file. You can find a download link for r11.5 here:
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/legacy-compatibility.htm . You can have both versions installed on a single computer but both will not be able to use right-click convert to and similar functions at the same time and please read the linked page carefully. You will note that Music Converter r 11.5 has to be installed to a different folder than that which has Music Converter r12+ and that Music Converter r11.5 MUST use a different set of codecs (known as Legacy Codecs). To use r11.5 to convert straight to MP3 would require installing the Power Pack for r11.5. I believe you would have to apply to Spoon for a link for that. For trial purposes, I would proposes that you simple use r11.5 to convert your file(s) to standard wave and then use your more functional trial version to convert to mp3.

There have been several other reports of this phenomena and I believe that Spoon is working on getting the next release of Music Converter the ability to read and convert such files.

    Hope this helps.
    Best wishes,
    Bill
