    Applying DSP Without Re-Encoding

I've been attempting to use dMC DSP features such as "trim" of "fade" on my mp3 files but can't seem to get it to work on files unless I select one of the format change or re-encode options (i.e. - convert to wave, mp3(lame) etc...) This will then require me to convert back to the original format with quality loss due to repetitive re-encoding. It'd be great if I could use these DSP features under some other operation (I have ID3 Tag Editor installed, for example) but I can't determine how to do so.

Is there any way to apply DSP without complete file re-encoding or format change?

    Help appreciated.

    Re: Applying DSP Without Re-Encoding

As most DSP effects need to be applied to the audio, the file has to be decompressed into a WAV, the effect applied, then re-encoded. I guess it is possible for Spoon to make a utility codec that just decodes the files, applies the effect, then re-encodes them to the settings it used before, but currently you do have to re-encode the file.
What you could do to alleviate quality loss if you are doing many effects in sequence is encode to a lossless format while applying effects then at the end encode to your lossy format.

Thanks for the input...using lossless codecs such as wav itself until I've completed DSP manipulations sounds like the way to go.
