"Slow (High Quality)" Setting In DMC MP3 Encoder

In the dialogue box options for MP3 encoding with lame codec, at left there is a "Slow (High Quality)" option. As this setting is independant of bitrate etc..., the usual determinants of mp3 quality, I'm wondering if what it really does is utilize more cpu resources to minimize encoding errors...or is the resulting mp3truly of higher encosing quality even irrespective of errors?

it soes double the encoding time, so if it doesn't help with actual quality i may use "normal" sretting instead, but if there is a true benefit it's worth the time.

Thanks to anyone who can shed light on this setting.

There are no real errors when encoding mp3, with that option on high the resulting quality is slightly higher.

Understood. In what sense is the mp3 of higher quality if bitrate etc... is unchanged.

You would have to ask the lame devs fo a consice answer, but in short various internal routines have a trade off for quality and speed of encoding, the high quali mode uses better routines.

Thanks for the response, I do see the point and will likely bear with the slower encoding speed to maximize quality.

You are kind to help educate me, spoon.

            can you hear a difference?

if not, then your probably just as well off using the default.

if you are concerned with 'archiving' your audio, your better off with lossless anyway.
