.m4b conversion error

I'm using 12.4, full version and want to convert .m4b to .mp3 for non-ipod mp3 player usage. I have downloaded the m4b codecs as far as I can tell. When I run the conversion I get the following error:

Error converting to mp3 (Lame), 'D:\My Documents\Downloads\7 Harry Potter Audiobooks read by Jim Dale (Chaptered, ready for iPod)\(2) Harry Potter And The Chamber of Secrets - J.K.    Error Chunk is out of file.  [clMP4Handler::ScanFile]

Are the files bought from the iPod store? they could be encrypted.

Can you play the .m4b files in a media player besides iTunes?

Yes, VLC media player does just fine.

I'm not sure how to host it, I don't have 250 MB of space anywhere on the interwebs... =\ Yahoo only allows 10MB attachments.

nope but I'm sure I can snip it with something, any suggestions on a free program for that?

no? I noticed when I loaded it up, there is a picture like from the cover of a book in the video window. However it's not a video file per say
... not sure if that could be affecting dBp somehow.

Can someone help me please? This is one of the only softwares I actually paid for in my life, I would like to be able to use it.

Without having the files there is little we can do, except speculate.
