"Run External" only passes 8-character filenames!

Is this just me? I'm trying to convert a huge amount of files to WAV and then use the "Run External" DSP plugin to send them off to another program for further dynamics processing. It all works fine, but it seems the Run External plugin only passes the DOS 8.3 version of the filename! I've now got a whole heap of files called "WHAM!~1.WAV" "WHAM!~2.WAV" etc etc....

Can anyone help? I'm using dBpowerAmp Reference version.

By design, the only way to work with Unicode filenames, your program running can use the windows call GetLongFileName to get the full name (from 8 char name).

Sadly it can't because it's not my program and I'm not a programmer. This is a shame, but never mind I guess.....
