Files converted from FLAC to M4A do not play from remote iTunes library

I've converted my music files from FLAC to Apple lossless (ALAC or m4a). The files play with no problem if they are local to an iTunes library. This is true whether I'm running iTunes on a Windows XP box or a Mac OS X box.

If I share the iTunes library on my Windows XP machine to iTunes running on a Mac OS X box or to an Apple TV, I cannot read/play the *.m4a files that were converted from FLAC from either the Mac or from Apple TV. I can play other *.m4a files from the in the same iTunes library on my Windows XP from either iTunes on a Mac or from Apple TV.

I'm wondering if this is an issue with the Music Converter or if there is a tag in the files that identifies the file was not created with Apple's iTunes ripper/codec which keeps the file from being played from a remote iTunes library.

    Any thoughts?

Download the m4a utilities from the m4a codec page in Codec Central and run the "m4a optimize" utility codec and make sure to check the box to generate a hint track. That should fix your problem.
