I just got the registered version of dvPowerAmp Music converter. I cannot convert any real files, ra, rm, ram, etc to mp3. I have downloaded the codec and installed it, or at least I think I did, but I always get an error message: Unable to load decoder for file type '.ra' codec not installed. It works perfectly for wav to mp3. Can anyone help, I have a lot of files I need to convert. Thanks in advance. Bob

Re: Cannot convert ra files to mp3
You have added .ra to the directshow file? (as per the directshow help file)? -
Re: Cannot convert ra files to mp3
I'm really dumb when it comes to this, but what is the directshow file? What I did was down load dBpoweramp-encoder-helix.exe. When I got it I double clicked on it and it was installed. When I try to decode a ra file I get a window exactly as show on the help page. The program goes thru all the motions but I always get the error file. What am I doing wrong if anything?
Oops!! I think I see that the helix is an encoder and I need a decoder. Right?????
If I get the Real Alternative program and the direct show filter will that do it, and will that in anyway affect my installed version of RealPlayer10 that I use now. I just got this computer and had previously used a little program called streambox ripper very successfully, but it will absolulely not work on this one.
I am running Windows XP sp2 same as before. Thanks for your help. BobComment

Re: Cannot convert ra files to mp3
The decoder and encoder for real files is two separate items, as you have discovered.
You can dry downloading the "RealMedia DirectShow Splitter" from this page http://neroplugins.afterdawn.com/ and see if that works in regards to decoding.Comment

Another potential problem would arise if your ra files have any kind of copy protection/DRM measures applied to them (which might occur if these files were purchased on the internet or "rented" through a music service).

Re: Cannot convert ra files to mp3
I am having the same problem.
- I can confirm that RealMediaSplitter.ax is located in C:\WINDOWS\system32
- I do not have RealPlayer installed
- The file plays in Real Alternative Player v1.80
- I have installed the dbpoweramp codec
I have tried converting to mp3 & wav but with the same error
Any other suggestions?Comment

Re: Cannot convert ra files to mp3
It plays in WMP but no sound (ie no error message).
I also notice that the time states 66:55:58 when the track is only 00:04:55
Here is a bit more info;
The codec is installed as detailed in the config (see below)
but when I go to the music converter, the *.rm extension does not exist (see below)

Re: Cannot convert ra files to mp3
That fixed it, thanks :komisch9:
As I did not have to install it when earlier versions of dbpoweramp, I thought the DirectShow Decoder was an external program that I installed when doing some video editing with VirtualDub etc.
All good nowComment
