    Dissapointed about music converter

I recently purchased the dbpoweramp audio converter and I found out that I can't convert mp3's to a smaller format. I only have the option of converting them to wave or window's media 10. I was hoping for software that would allow me to add more files to my portable audio device.

What is your portable audio device? What formats can it handle? At what frequencies and bitrates? Is there a format you had in mind that you were hoping to use? What bitrates and frequencies are the mp3 files you are hoping to shrink?

dB Music Converter (dMC) does not support certain proprietary formats (like ATRAC, for one example). It does not currently support Mp3Pro (although you can still use the earlier version of dMC-r11.5 to do so) but to really benefit from Mp3Pro you need to have a player that can interpret and Mp3Pro files properly (otherwise to Mp3Pro files are read as Mp3 files and you have no advantage over Mp3). dMC does allow you to create compressed wave files and/or Ogg Vorbis files (if your portable player supports these). It would also allow you (if you have a registered version) to recode your mp3 files to smaller files (by lowering frequency and/or bitrate and/or channels).

    Best wishes,
    Bill

Hi My portable audio device is an RCA Lyra 512mb. I used to have Roxio easy cd & creater 6 software and it gave me the option to shrink a file size to enable my portable audio device to store approx. 240 songs using wma format. Using windows media audio 10 with dbpoweramp I can only store about 60 files.

What bitrate are you encoding to with dMC? Try a lower bitrate.

Are you using the 2-pass option as it helps to further reduce file sizes?

Hi Trying a lower bit rate did the trick. Thanks a lot for your help.
