CRC errors when re-encoding FLAC files ?

    Hi everybody,

    I take a FLAC file, then I calculate its CRC / MD5 with F-CRC calculator :
    CRC : E82D8973 MD5 : 106EBD3486A81D43B943421F9545D5DD

Then I re-encode the file to FLAC with dbPowerAmp and I check the re-encoded file :
    CRC : 1F647371 MD5 : BCC3157ED4EC9131632BC4222DD26BDA

Am I becoming crazy or what ?!? They should be identical !!!

Of course I did another test, with another random-choosed file :
    Before : CRC : AE1A23E0 MD5 : 3064D0A9F4070C2B229E9CF2691EBA82
    After : CRC : E4B2055D MD5 : 470555E94244234254EEC07BE38F7FF3

I'm using dBpowerAMP 12.3 + FLAC release 10 (FLAC 1.2.0), with "verify" option checked.

Thanks for enlightening me on this matter.

The difference is probably in the tags. If you have Reference, use the "Calculate Audio CRC" to calculate the CRC in just the audio portion of the file.

Edit: You just need the Reference Codec pack, the "Calculate Audio CRC" portion doesn't require Reference itself.

That's good news. Unfortunately I don't have Reference. Is there a software that could help me with calculating CRCs in only the audio portion of the files ? Thanks.

EDIT : but if I understand you well, CRCs should be identical between the 2 decoded WAV files. Am I wrong ? Because they aren't identical in my case...

afaik yes they should, that is the whole purpose of lossless. But try and download the trial of reference see what it tells.

Install the Referenc Codec Pack, the Calculate Audio CRC does not require Reference.

WAV files in dMC still have tags unless you disable that feature.
