codec sources of burned cds

Hello.
Over the years I've accumulated many burned cds (particularly of live Dead shows) and would like to rip many of them into mp3. However, i'd like to figure out whether those cds were burned from lossless sources or lossy ones. Is there any way for the dbpoweramp cd ripper to determine the format used to burn those cds, such as wave or bitrate of mp3 used?

There is a program, forget the name, which can check the high frequencies, if they are there it is lossless. Try searching hydrogenaudio.org

I am blanking on it too...it uses several methods: the audio spectrum profile, some known codec quirks and, of course, the metadata. The first two approaches would be useful for MP3s that were later burned as audio CDs.

AuCDtect - is a free console program for determining the authenticity of musical CDs. By evaluating the character of audio data a CD contains, Tau Analyzer can distinguish between original studio-based recordings and those that have been "reconstructed" using a lossy audio source, such as MP3. Console app. Freeware.
