dMC12.2 can't read FLAC tags, dMC11.5 works better

I have dMC 11.5 and it's been working great for months, but I have a laptop with Vista so I gave dMC 12 a go.

I tried converting flac to mp3, but I realised that the mp3s have no tags! I tried it on my old laptop and the mp3s come out just fine.

dMC12 just can't read the flac tags! Is there a way to make it work as well as dMC 11.5? Did I do something wrong? or is it because dMC 12 is trial version?

See pic below (sorry if it's too big).

You have the FLAC coded for dMC r12 installed, correct?

yes, I installed dBpoweramp-Codec-FLAC for dMCr12, otherwise I couldn't have transcoded to mp3. All media players that can play flac can read the tags too, this is very annoying.

If you check your Configuration for both versions are the settings for FLAC tags the same?

Configurations for both versions are completely different.
In dMC 11.5 under the "ID Tag Options" tab, there are no settings for flac...
While in dMC 12.2 under the "codec" tab, in advance options there are flac tagging options but I can't compare them to 11.5 since it has none. I've messed around with the options but nothing helps.

These are the defult settings, should I change them to something?

Just to double-check something: You installed dMC r12.3 on your Vista machine and r11.5 on your XP machine? You took the same file to both machines and only the XP machine reads the tags?

Yup, 11.5 is in XP and 12.2 is in Vista. A copy of the same file in both machines but only 11.5 can read the tags and when I transcode to mp3 (or anything else) only XP preserves the id tags.

Okay, finally got it to work!
                I uninstalled 12.2 and installed 12.3... didn't work.
I noticed that the codecs didn't uninstall so I removed the flac and ape codec then installed again... didn't work either.
I removed DirectShow Decoder (I needed for .ac3) then reinstalled all the codecs I needed and now it works!

So I will have to do without .ac3 and just use headac3he

LtData, thank you for your time~

Try reinstalling the DirectShow Decoder but remove .flac from the DS Config file and see if that helps. It sounds like you install a codec pack like K-Lite which installed a FLAC DirectShow decoder which overrode the FLAC codec.

Yeah, I have klite, but i never uninstalled klite to begin with. The DirectShow Decoder I uninstalled was the one from dMC code central http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central-ac3.htm
I checked the directshow settings in klite and there is no FLAC or APE decoder, so there couldn't have been any conflict.

                    Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

What I was referring was to the fact that the dMC r12 DirectShow Decoder automatically detects what codecs are installed into DirectShow and adds them to the list of codecs it will decode, and apparently FLAC was one of them.

I too have a problem converting FLAC to MP3 using dmc 12.3 - the tags don't convert. I uninstalled everything (dmc, the codecs, FLAC, WinAmp) and reinstalled 12.3 and the latest FLAC codec but no dice.

The tags are in the FLAC files and they appear when I right click and "Edit ID-Tag" but after conversion to mp3 the tags are gone (same as the pic at the start of the thread).

I've had several versions of dmc installed on my XP box and the conversion used to work fine. (I don't have the DirectShow Decoder. I'm not sure when or how dmc broke.

                        Any help would be appreciated.

You are converting to Lame mp3? Are you using any DSP effects?

Yes - converting to mp3 lame. No DSP Effects.

Hold the mouse over the created mp3 file, does it have ID Tags? (as shown by dbpoweramp)?
