    Message Error No encoder specified

    Hi,

I have installed today dbPowerAmp 12.3 on my Windows Vista (32 bits) computer.

When I tray to convert a file, I have the message :
    Error converting to , 'C:\Users\Parents\Desktop\20.WAV' to 'C:\Users\Parents\Desktop\20'
    Error no encoder specified. dBCoreConverter::ParseCommandLine

I have also this message when I use the test conersion.

Do you have any idea how to resolve this ?

Some questions to start out with:
Did you install through an account with Administrative priviledges?
Can you play the wave file you are trying to convert?
What were you trying to convert your wave file to?

    Best wishes,
    Bill

Yes, I install the though an account with administrative privileges.

I can play the file with Windows Media Player (WAV with a 'classic' PCM codec)

I wanted to save the file on the desktop (but i doesn't work in another directories).

It looks like you have already saved your wave file to your desktop. If you want to save it elsewhere (because, as you point out, some programs may not be able to access a file from the desktop), why not copy and paste the wave file to a different location? You would copy and paste because if anything goes wrong you will still have the file on your desktop. Then, once you are certain that you have gotten the file where you want/need it to be, you can delete the original file from your desktop if you want or need to.

dBpowerAMP Music Converter is meant to be a tool for converting audio files from one format to another (such as from wave to mp3) or to modify the properties of audio files (using DSP effects). To move a file, either copying and pasting or dragging and dropping would appear to be better options than using Music Converter.

But, if the file is on your desktop, Music Converter should be able to work with it and convert it ok unless there is some issue involved in modifying a file on your desktop from the particular user account you are accessing it from. Might you have an antivirus program (Kerio Personal Firewall seems to have a documented issue of blocking Music Converter until modified, for example) or other security feature that might be blocking Music Converter? Does music Converter work with oter files in different locations? Also, are you using Vista in 32 bit or 64 bit mode?

Please let us know if copy and paste works for getting your wave file where you want it to go and to let us know if your issue with Music Converter is a problem with other files in other locations.

        Best wishes,
        Bill

Re: Message Error No encoder specified

I'm using Windows vista 32 bits.

I have the same problems in other locations or with other files (WAV or MP3).

I have Bitdefender 2008, but the problem remain even if I disable the Antivirus and Firewall.

I have uninstall this software, reboot my computer and reinstall It, but the problem is still here.

          Strange, isn't it ?

Have you used (or are still using) an earlier version (r11.5 or earllier) of Music Converter in the past? Are you running dBpowerAMP Audio Player, Sveta, or CD Writer r2? In that case, follow the instructions here:

If this does not help, can you open up dBpowerAMP Configuration and copy to the clipboard (and then to your reply) first your version information and then your Codecs information?

            Best wishes,
            Bill

dBpoweramp will write to the temp folder to pass filenames, if you have security software locking the system down, or no temporary folder (is possible), then it could cause this.

In dbpoweramp configuration enable the debug setting on the music converter tab, then try to convert.
