Error converting WAV file to mp3

I downloaded the dbpoweramp music converter and I want to convert a WAV file to an mp3 file, but when I try to convert it I get an error message:

"cannot create Wave Decoder (CCITT u-law)? [cl Wave Decoder (there are four dots here) Prepare Decode Audio]"

The WAV file is of a recording I made using FreeConferenceCall.com is the file locked or something? Or is there something else I need to download?

    Thank you.

The ACM drivers in Windows are refusing to decode the file, have you tried playing it in Windows Media Player?

I can play the audio just fine that isn't the problem. I wanted to convert the file to an mp3 so I can upload it to my website as my website is expecting an mp3 file and doesn't allow me to upload a WAV file.

What version of dMC are you using? See below in my signature under "Need to find your version?"

I downloaded dMC r12.3 and do not have any other versions downloaded.

If you try to test convert this wave file, will it successfully test convert?

To try a test conversion, go through the same steps where you choose mp4 as your output format choose Test Conversion instead. This will tell you very quickly whether dBpowerAMP Music Converter can read your file (which is quite possibly the source of your difficulty).

If the test conversion is successful, the problem might be with your output settings.

            Best wishes,
            Bill

              Thank you Xoas,
I just tried the test conversion and got the exact same error message. So if I understand correctly the converter can't read this file so there isn't anything I can do to convert this file?

Even though you may not be able to convert this directly, there are 2 other steps you might try:
                  1. If WMP allows you, you could try burning this file to standard CD and ripping the CD to mp3 (or a really clever variation is to prepare the file for burning to CD and converting the temporary file-the wave file created to be burned to CD-to mp3 but this will not always work and you do have to know/find out where the temporary file is stored);
                  2. The older version of Music Converter (R11.5) had a feature called Auxiliary input. Using Auxiliary Input to record this file as you play it on Windows Media Player. There are certain other programs such as SoundBite that will also do this. For more on Auxiliary Input with Music Converter r12 and later see: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/legacy-compatibility.htm

                  Hope this helps.

                  Best wishes,
                  Bill
