    dbPoweramp Trial expired!? WTF!?

OK, so I paid my $28 on 7/16/07 for the reference dbPA thru SWREG. I haven't used it in about a month, and I go to use it today and it's EXPIRED!!?!

My AMG Access shows 255 days remaining...

OK, I'll try to calm down and wait for your reply Spoon, which will undoubtedly give me a QUICK & EASY way to get back up & running...

    :vmad:

so now its let me in to some castrated version where I can't access my profiles or enable ultra-secure ripping.

Sooooo...3 and 1/2 months after spending $28 I can't use the program I paid for in the version I paid for with the capabilities I paid for?

Are you sure that you downloaded and installed the registered version?

Use your order number and redownload a copy of the registered version here.

        Re: dbPoweramp Trial expired!? WTF!?

yes absolutely. I have used the registered version of ref 12.3 many times, but not in the last 30 days or so.

I also did the 12.3 upgrade the "correct" way, which as I recall was over top of the existing install rather than as a new install. I used the program about a dozen times after that -- no problem.

I've got to say that as good as the dMC software is (and it IS very good & easy to use)...

well, other parts of dMC, such as the on-line documentation, the registrations problems, and problems like I'm going through right now really -- well -- SUCK for lack of a more descriptive term.

I am certainly resigned to not being able to use it this weekend while I wait for Spoon to get online etc etc etc...

        :(

For starters, I appreciate your concern & assistance. Seriously.

HOWEVER -- there is no way I should have to resubmit & redownload & redo all of my profiles & redownload all of my codecs etc etc etc. That is a royal PITA!

            Have you tried this here?
There was an issue where the FhG codec was incorrectly displaying the Reference registraion page, this has now been fixed. Install this new version here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central-mp3-fraunhofer.htm

This pertains to a bug that was reported on 11/01 and which Spoon has since corrected.

            Best wishes,
            Bill

                  Re: dbPoweramp Trial expired!? WTF!?

I think my propsal is on target, even if you don't know the Fraunhofer II mp3 codec which should have been installed along with your reference version of Music Converter.

I have reference myself but it hadn't dawned on me that I might have this problem when I wrote about it. But when I called up Music Converter (r12.3 reference) I got a window asking me to register my reference version (which I am assuming is what you might be seeing. I will also note that clicking on the OK button of this window allows me to go on and use Music Converter, but not the Fraunhofer codec.

So I suspect this is what is going on with your set-up.

                  Best wishes,
                  Bill

EDIT- You were posting as I was checking this out. I'm going to have to assume that your problem lies elsewhere. Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing r12.3 reference?

Second edit- If that does not work, can you tell us how you get to the spot where you get told that your r 12.3 Music Converter reference is not registered?

                  Bill

Correct me if I'm wrong (which I probably am), but doesn't this require re-submitting my purchase code, waiting hours or days for Spoon to see it, require re-downloading all my codecs, redoing all my profiles, etc, etc ,etc? You have NO IDEA how much I hate the thought of all that...

Simply by double-clicking on the desktop icon, like always. After the "you're expired" message, about 1-2 minutes later, the CD Ripper program appeared in its simplistic no-features form. Now when I dbl-click there's a 10+ second period of nothing happening before the same neutered version of the program appears.

If you saved your download installation file you don't have to mess with that at all.
If you have not, I don't think you have to mess with the registered link retrieval unless you cannot provide your order/receipt number. If you can do that then I think the process is much quicker. See: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/registration/

(Assuming you have to download a new installation file, do save it)

If you run into trouble, do let us know.

And this persists despite downloading and installing the new Fraunhofer IIs codec (and selecting to uninstall the previous version during the installation)? (I assume this is what you did, just double-checking).

I will check out your other codecs but right now the uninstall/reinstall seems to be the likeliest solution.

OK -- I did the retrieval process. I had my SWREG order number. And --

                        wait for it --

yes, all went quickly & easily. and, yes, I was a complete pussy :o :smile2: & was suffering from needless anticipated angst. Apparently I don't need to re-do all my codecs & my profiles are still there etc...

So (pending further testing) all is well.

Still no reason I can think of why I had to do that, but, whatever.

The only apparent change is there is still about 10 seconds from dbl-clicking the desktop icon until the program appears, whereas before it was pretty instantaneous...

Now I may as well do the 12.4 Beta over top of the 12.3 & try to screw myself up some more! :supersmil

                        Thanks for your help Bill...

Your version of dMC is the r12.3 beta. Install the r12.3 registered version via Registered link retrieval (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/registration/).
What probably happened was that you had r12.2 registered, installed the beta, which gave you reference status for a period of time, and when it expired it dropped you to powerpack status.

Also, there is an automated way to get a new registered version, and you shouldn't need to uninstall all of your codecs. Just run the r12.3 registered installer, have it uninstall your existing version, and you should be fine.

I hadn't meant to suggest this. I wanted to check out your listed codecs on the off-chance that you might have installed a Legacy codec into you version of Music Converter (but this does not appear to have been the case).

Glad it all worked out and, moreover, that LtData was able to explain it.
