    Converting from FLAC to mp3

Just downloaded and registered the newest version of your converter. I had been using the old version for a year. My main use is to convert live music shows from various sources to mp3 so i can listen on portable players. Have always been able to convert FLAC to bp3 in the past, With new version, here is what I get when I try to do the FLAC - mp3 conversion:
    Error converting to mp3 (Lame), 'C:\Documents and Settings\shodgins\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\particle2007-05-04\particle2007-05-04_d3t05.flac' to 'C:\Documents and Settings\shodgins\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\particle2007-05-04_d3t05.mp3'
    Error reading metadata

I get this for every file. Any ideas what I can do to correct? Thanks! - benanderson

You installed the FLAC codec to dMC, correct?
If you right-click on the file and click "Edit Tag", does anything show up? Where did these files come from?

I did get the FLAC codec. When I right click like you suggested, I get "<Contains no ID-Tags.>" The files came from the usually very reliable bt.etree.org. Since I posted, I tried to convert some other FLACS I had, and it worked fine. Could it be just dumb luck that I happened to pick some bad files to convert the first time after I upgraded?

Apparently the files have no ID Tags that dMC can read. If you play the files in a player such as Winamp, does it show ID tags?

Starting to get a little out of my element here. I'm not exactly sure how to tell if it is showing ID tags - is that just things like file/song length? If so, the problem files are not showing anything but song title, artist and album.

But....I downloaded Winamp, and the files in question did not play. The player simply scrolled from song to song without playing anything. I've had problems before when for some reason my downloader only downloaded a TINY portion of the full file, but this set that I'm having problems with is a full 880 meg or so.

Some Grateful Dead FLAC files that I loaded into Winamp played great.

Is the advantage to something like Winamp the ability to play lossless tunes via a home stereo, etc?

Really appreciate your help with this. I learned a lot even if I didn't get to the music I wanted. There will be other Particle shows that cross my way. Thanks again!

To conclude this drama.....Just saw in bt.etree that the seeder found a problem in the files he uploaded. Damn - the first show I converted after upgrading just happened to be a bad set of files. Bad coincidence. Thanks again for your help!
