It doesn't see any thing that it recognizes as a track number, even though the files look identical to files ripped by WMP. Thanks for the response. I've been going nuts over this.
I also would like to understand an answer to the original question posted in this thread. I have been exploring this issue for a few hours now with only a very little new information to add.

I found that if you rip a CD in WMP11 in wav format, then dMC can see the tags for: Artist, Title, Album, and Genre. But not the track number. If you add the track number to the song with dMC and reload the song into WMP11, then WMP11 displays the track number as "0". dMC can edit the other 4 tags without issue, but it's edits to the track number are incompatible with WMP11. Very strange. Any ideas why this is happening?

What happens if WMP is used to write a wave tracknumber tag? does it show up in dBpoweramp?

Re: WMP 11 doesn't read dbpoweramp track #'s

By the way I am running dMC 12.4 and WMP11 on Windows XP. I did some more investigating and here is what I found:
        A) I added every possible column to Windows explorer and after ripping a CD to wav using WMP11
-- I can see the tag information for Artist, Title, Album and Genre – but the Track Number column is empty and no other column seems to contain any track information.
-- WMP shows the correct track number information in the player
-- dMC shows the track number tag as empty

        B) if I edit any information in WMP, it seems to be saved locally in the library but no changes are made to the file. Here is how I tested it:
-- All fields in the Advanced Tag Editor are “grayed out” and can not be edited
-- If you edit the track number or song title “inline” in the main window, the changes stick if you close WMP and restart it.
-- However, if you delete the album with modified info from the library (but don’t delete the files) and then have WMP add new files, the album is re-added to the library with the original tag information. All of the previous WMP-made changes are lost.
-- “editing” the track number in WMP does not change the track number or cause it to show-up in dMC

        C) using dMC to edit any of the 5 main tags (Artist, Title, Album, Genre, Track Number) causes WMP11 to “lose” the track number and set it to zero. The other tag information is fine and shows any dMC-edit information without problem.

Re: WMP 11 doesn't read dbpoweramp track #'s

              Hi
I Don't know if this is related, but WMP / WinAmp only list my music as tracks - the album grouping is not recognised.

When I choose the columns for windows detail view I get two lots of Artist, Title, Track No. etc to choose!

It seems that a completely new set of meta tags is added and the default windows tags are ignored.

Can I configure dbPowerAmp to use the standard windows tags that exist?

This thread is to do with wav ID Tags, the latest R13 alpha version fixes any wav tagging issues.

I have another post in this area about the same issue going from Windows lossless to FALC and not having a track# in the FLAC when I bring it back to WMP. Spoom will the fix you mention fix this as well

I have the same issue in that I use WMP because of the connectivity to portable media players but wanted the FLAC format for other higher end playback devices I have in my car and home media system.
