Ripped FLAC track numbers - wrong order on playback?

Currently trying the trial of Reference as many have said it's much easier/better than EAC. I must admit I did'nt find EAC hard to set up but I do prefer the interface of dBPowerAMP.

There is one problem I'm having however, even at the first CD rip (despite it being easier to set up by all acoounts) and that is that I have just ripped a CD and on the dBpowerAMP rip screen all the tracks were listed in the right order. However, when I've gone to use Foobar to play the album the tracks are in the wrong order??? Seemingly because the tracks have been ripped with a tag using 1/15, 2/15 and 10/15 etc. Most programmes I suspect (and Foobar included) seem to read the 10/15 as coming before 2/15. As such the album is out of synch on playback.

Given that generally one would expect an album by default to play in the order it was pressed it seems odd that this issue has cropped up, particularly given the indication that dbPowrAMP is supposed to be easier 'out of the box'.

    So questions are:

    a) Is there something that I already need to be tinkering with (making it less easy) to get the track numbering right?

    b) Is this something I'm going to have to do for every album (in which case I doubt I'll continue with dbPowerAmp)?

    c) Is this an issue caused by Foobar and the way it reads tracks or will it be the settings for dBpowerAMP that would cause the same issues across every player (e.g. Media Monkey)?

Must admit I'm quite surprised that this has cropped up. One thing with EAC is that there are a number of guides that do make setting it up less of a problem than some imply which is not the case with dBpowerAMP. I actually find the Help screen not particularly useful at all, particularly for something as basic as getting an album to rip so it plays in the right order.

I genuinely do prefer the look and functionality of this programme and the AMG plug-in and I would like to continuue to use it but if it's this 'Easy' I might end up going back to EAC.

Re: Ripped FLAC track numbers - wrong order on playback?

The file naming I'm after with dbPoweramp is something along the lines of the following but I can find no guidance anywhere as to how to use the naming convention options in order to do so. e.f. IFCOMP and IFVALUE etc?????:

Artist; Album; Year; Track no.; Track Title.

I would like the albums going into a folder of artist and the ability to cater for muti disc sets.

More than anything though I need to avoid the nubering convention where players put the tracks out of order (e.g. 1/11, 10/11, 11/11, 2/11) etc which is the most infuriating.

    Thanks

Is it the filename or the id tag for track number which is causing problems?

Re: Ripped FLAC track numbers - wrong order on playback?

I haven't a clue and I haven't a clue how to find out or change either. Essentially all i want to do is rip tracks to FLAC and have Foobar recognise an album and dsiplay/play the tracks in the correct order. I've spent half a day on this so far and got nowhere and I have to say it is getting very annoying. How people think that this is easier than EAC is beyond me!!!

I have spent ages ripping the same albums over and over in DBPA :vmad: only to find that the result is a bit of a disaster when it comes to playback through Foobar. In short the playlist I get in Foobar looks like this:

        01. Girls Aloud - [The Sound of Girls Aloud: The Greatest Hits [Bonus Tracks] #1/15] Sound of the Underground

As such the tracks aren't going in the right order as the next two in the list are 10/15 and 11/15!!! Now I'm not sure if this is either:

        a) A problem with the tagging being applied by AMG

        b) A problem with the tagging somewhere that I need to change in DBPA

        c) A problem with the filenaming I am using in DBPA (which is putting the art on the folder but not achieving much else!!)

        d) A problem with how I have Foobar reading track/album data.

All in all it's bloody frustrating and I've spent more time on this today than I did setting up EAC. I'm going to try and install Media Monkey in a while to see if it can make any more sense of the format the albums are being copied in than Foobar is.

My filenaming set up in DBPA (default) currently is:

        [IFCOMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],Various Artists[]\[album][IFMULTI] Disc [disc][]\[track] [artist] - [title][][IF!COMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[artist][]\[artist] - [album][IFMULTI] Disc [disc][] - [track] - [title][]

Now, any help from DBPA users would be really appreciated. What I'm after is:

For FLAC: An indication of what settings I need to change to get a system which creates an artist folder, album folders within it (with the art embedded), and in such a way that when a player lists the tracks it caters for album; artist; year; track no (01, 02, 11 etc NOT 1/11, 10/11), and where necessary caters for multiple discs.

For MP3: What settings do I need to have such that when converting from FLAC to MP3 for an Ipod the tracks will be converted such that an Ipod can make sense of it (album, artist, track etc at least I suspect or whatever iTunes would give if more than that).

Sorry if all this sounds a bit basic but how to do this in DBPA or indeed where to look for a concise guide on how to do so is a complete mystery to me, despite spending hours scouring the DBPA forums :(

Click the Options button (not the arrow), then click the "Option" button beside "ID Tag" and scroll to the bottom. You can then disable the "1/11" option and/or turn on the option to pad the track number to two digits (01 instead of 1).

Re: MP3: the iPod shows the data in the tags of the files, not the filename. As long as you have the artist, title, album, and track, you should be fine.

Regarding the naming scheme, it seems like a short tutorial on the naming scheme is needed. I'll plan to write this in the next few days.

What is the file name of the track "01. Girls Aloud - [The Sound of Girls Aloud: The Greatest Hits [Bonus Tracks] #1/15] Sound of the Underground"?

What happens if you rip to a different format?

The file name taken from Properties with the track playing in Media Monkey is:

Girls Aloud - The Sound of Girls Aloud; The Greatest Hits [Bonus Tracks] - 01 - Sound of the Underground.flac

Re: Ripped FLAC track numbers - wrong order on playback?

                Just tried a little experiment.

I ripped a CD to flac and noted that the track numbers in the tags were 1/15 thru to 15/15 but the files had a 2 digit track number prefix 01, 02 etc. Once loaded into foobar the track numbers were displayed as 1/15, 2/15 thru 15/15.

However if I converted the flac files to mp3 retaining the same track information in the tag foobar now displays the track number as a 2 digit number 01, 02 thru 15.

It appears that foobar may be the culprit.

Media Monkey seems to put all the tracks in the right order and with no problem (or naming clutter) so think I'll go with that. Now I've forced two number track numbering in dBpoweramp the tracks list in the right order in Foobar but Foobar still provided rather odd and 'busy' (to the extent that I don't like them) file names when it lists tracks though:

                    03. Frankie Goes to Hollywood - [Bang!...The Greatest Hits of Frankie Goes to Hollywood CD01/01 #03] War

Picked a long artist name to emphasise the resultant clutter. Doubtless a thing that can be edited in Foobar but I'm not up on the black art of Foobar set up

Is there a way to batch edit existing .flac files to convert the track IDtag to 2 digit track numbering? I have already ripped ~500 CDs and don't really want to start from scratch. My file names are 2 digit but not the tag entry.

When you say "2 digit track numbering" do you mean two-digit numbers instead of 02/12? If so, I don't see a way to batch-edit the files with dMC.

As it is now, I did not have the "pad track numbers to 2 digits" set so my file names are 01... 02... but the ID is 1/15, 2/15. Can you batch edit so it will read 01/15, 02/15?

No, there isn't a way to batch edit to do that.

I guess you've probably solved this by now but if not you can use the program Mp3tag. It's really a great piece of software for batch editing tags of most audio formats.

I have had the same problem which I've only noticed recently even though I've been using dbPowerAmp converter and cd ripper for ages. Some of my rips both to ogg and flac are ok 1,2,3 etc and some are 'not' ok 1/10,2/10,3/10 etc.

In mp3tag you can filter your entire library by '/' in the track field and then use auto numbering to reset the track number.
