getting replay gain per album on an iPod

My objective is to get album gain (replay gain on an album basis instead of a track basis) on my iPod. I use MediaMonkey for syncing.

The tags built by dbPoweramp Music Converter Replay gain are ignored on the iPod. Same with the tagging done by mp3gain.

The volume analysis done by MediaMonkey tags tracks in a way that is understood by the iPod, but its only on a track basis, not an album basis. Supposedly MM versn3 will have this, but they don't know what month this will be released. Or what year.

So as I understand it, the next best choice is to use the Volume Normalize DSP with the Music Converter. I understand that this changes the mp3 track in a non-reversible way by actually changing the volume of the music, but since everything that MediaMonkey manages is a copy of an original just for my iPod, it doesn't matter - isn't cheap disc space great...

    But some questions:

    1. Its not clear if the Volume Normalize DSP even does album based track gain. The settings only says "Replay Gain (track gain)". Can I get album gain this way?

    2. What to I set "converting to" to, since I don't actually want to do any data conversion??

Any other suggestions and recommended settings would be welcome.

    thnx,

There is a permanent replaygain applied in the Volume Normalize DSP effect, but as you say it is track gain only.

Convert to the same format and same settings. There will be a small amount of quality lost, but a very small amount.
