i can seem to find the answer for this so here goes.

can you retain album art using dbpoweramp?

will be converting WMA 128 to MP3 128
    and MP3 192 to MP3 128

    thanks for the help!

Yes, dMC will retain album art in supported formats (Vorbis is the only format that doesn't support album art, I believe), which definately includes mp3 and WMA.

      Re: Retain album art?

      thanks for your reply

is there anything that I have to do to get it to retain the album art?

it doesnt seem to be doing it currently. is a specific version of dMC is needed?

is there anything that would be stopping it from getting the album art?

      regards

        Re: Retain album art?

dMC r12 is required to retain album art. Album art is only retrieved when ripping a CD with the CD ripper. If you don't know what version you are using, see "Need to find your version?" below.

          oh i see,

so the album art cant be retained by converting exisiting files on the pc to another format.? i.e. they are already ripped to pc and dont want to rerip them all, i just wanted to convert from wma to mp3

            Re: Retain album art?

You misunderstood me. Album art is only added to files when you rip a CD. dMC r12 will preserve album art when converting between compatible formats (which includes mp3 and WMA), as I mentioned above.

              ok sorry bout that.

i still a little confused. as it stands, when I go into my music, every thumbnail has the album art on it. these all have WMAs contained in them.

So when i convert these to MP3s in a new folder, that folder should have the art with it?

or are you saying that when i convert it, have the output folder be the same as the original as to keep the art on there?

If your album art is an external "folder.jpg" and is not embedded in the file itself, which is what it seems like is your case, dMC will not move that file over to the new folder, you will have to manually move it over.

                  ok cool,

how do you embed the album art in the music file? and is there something that tells me what files have album art embedded in them so i dont have to do them all (about 4000 files i think)

I think Spoon mentioned that, if you have dBpoweramp Reference, you can turn on a column called "Contains" that will say if the files have embedded album-art.

thanks a heap for all of your help mate, its much appreciated, i know its been a little painful, helping out a n008.

downloaded mediamonkey to embed the files with the images. works like a charm, and once thats done ill convert everything using dMC. its also easy to see if art is embedded by the section in the bottom left actually showing it if its there.

                      again, thanks a bunch

Note that if you have the album art embedded, you can use the "ID Tag Processing" DSP effect to export the album art to a folder.jpg.

Exporting the album art to a folder.jpg will give you thumbnails for the folders as you had before. Note that the album art will still be embedded.
