M4a codec and gapless support on iPod

After encoding a few hundred songs I've discovered that the iPod does not seem to support gapless playback using the Nero AAC codec. Encoding to ALAC and then using iTunes to encode to AAC allows gapless iPod playback but it a bit tedious as it requires some extra steps and you also need to know which songs/CDs need have gapless play.

The iPod does seem to support gapless play using songs/CDs encoded to MP3 format.

Knowing this I have changed my strategy and will now encode to flac and then to MP3 instead of AAC as I know all my gapless CDs will play properly.

Are there any plans to add support for the iTunes AAC encoder so that gapless playback can be supported using dBpoweramp converter? Or any changes from Nero that will elimate this issue? I don't suppose Apple will support reading the gapless information from Nero AAC files in the iPod.

Apple would have to add support for other codecs, like they did for mp3 (they did not even support lame mp3, only their own, from the beginning).

If written an email to Nero asking for support for Apple's gapless metadata information format,.. but so far,.. no reply...

Perhaps you might also have a look at this feature request for gtkpod I've added. http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index...73&atid=519276

It contains a link to a forum post that seems to explain Apple's format.

I've just received an answer from Nero where they told me that adding Apple's gapless metadata format support to their AAC encoder is not currently planned, but that they've added it to their feature-request list.
