Problem with semicolon artist seperator

I rip all of my music to WMA Lossless then convert to AAC for my wife. I use WMP to get the tag info for the files, which puts in semicolon seperators between artists e.g. Justin Timberlake;Nelly Furtado. When I convert to AAC the semicolons turn into 'squares'. I assume it's just an invalid character. Would there be any better way to handle the multiple artist hand off to the AAC encoder?

Also as an aside to this, is there a plan to implement the new Album Artist tag that iTunes supports into the AAC encoder?

I you install the Beta version of the m4a encoder, it can handle multi artists correctly, album artist is also supported, see the beta.
