choice of mp3 format???

My copy of dBpoweramp lists three mp3 encoders:

mp3(lame)
mp3(helix)
mp3 (Fraunhoffer IIS)

Why pick one over the other?? Why are they all there???

If there is some documentation (or even better, a comparison) on the three please point me at the information....

There are three mp3 encoders as some users prefer one encoder over the others. The lame option uses the LAME mp3 encoder. The helix encoder uses a Real Audio mp3 encoder. The fraunhoefer option uses, obviously, the Fraunhoefer mp3 encoder. As for which one to pick, that is up to personal choices. If you need to choose one, the three of them will probably be very similar in their results, but you can try each one and see which one you prefer.
