    dBpowerAMP disables mouse

when I rip from CD to mp3 dBpowerAMP disables the mouse. not every time but 40-50% of the time. It completes ripping but I then have to restart the PC. I am running no other progs at the same time & I have turned off AccurateRip. Priority is set at below normal.
I am in the process of trying to rip my large CD collection for storage on external HD and this problem has really taken the wind out of my sails. I have found other posts that mention the same problem but have not found the solution.
Does anyone know if this can be prevented? I am running dBpowerAMP on XP Home, SP2.

    thanks

By disable the mouse you mean the whole computer crashes? ie the ALT tab will not switch between programs?

only the mouse is disabled (as far as I know), haven't tried ALT/TAB.
I need to CTRL/ALT/DELETE to restart via the task manager.

          thanks

The other threads you linked to were for the whole computer crahing.

So you press CTL + ALT + DEL and load task manager, then what?

first I remove the CD from the drive, close the drawer, then CTRL+ALT+DELETE for task manager, then arrow down to CDGrab.exe, then ALT+E, then Enter (to press OK), then ALT+U, then arrow down to Restart, then Enter (or ALT+R). When the machine restarts, I rip another CD and half the time the mouse is disabled again & I go thru the process again.

              thanks

Try CD Ripper >> Option and set the Communication to Windows Internal.

                      Re: dBpowerAMP disables mouse

when I change the setting as you suggested, I get an error on the first track of each disc I tried to rip:

Error ripping to mp3 (Lame), 'Track 1' to 'C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\Rip\Love Spit Love - trysome eatone\01 - long, long time.mp3'
Unable to read CD, check CD disc (frame LBA 0 ripping 26 frames track end LBA 19833) [clRipperBurst::Rip]

the ripping continues and the entire disc is ripped except track 1. When I then select just the first track, it rips successfully. This has occurred on several CD's but the problem with the mouse has not happened. Also the rip is extremely slow 2 - 3X regular speed.

                      thanks

Use the drive spin up option, also check in device manager that windows has not put the cd drive in PIO mode rather than DMA (under the controllers).

spin-up option is set at 2 sec. also not sure what to do in controllers. I have 2 Primary IDE Channel & 2 Secondary IDE Channel & 2 Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Channel. (my system has 2 optical drives & 2 HD's). Both Primary are set DMA if available, both Secondary are set PIO only.
Should I change both Secondary to DMA?

                          thanks

If you cannot change the secondary to DMA, you will have to uninstall the secondary controller, then go to Action --> Scan for Hardware changes, let it reinstall the controllers, and then reboot.
