    Question About Installing Codecs

Okay, I know you have to install codecs in order to use DMC's conversion thingy with other formats. However, here is a question I have. Are the codecs for the DMC program ONLY, or is it for the whole computer in general?

I have WMedia player v8, I think, and so shouldn't the codecs already be on my computer? DMC doesn't seem to recognize it though. Unless I HAVE to install the codecs from this website in order for it to work.

Hmmm, if I have to, then which one do I choose? I am not running WMedia Player 9, only the older version.

All the codecs that you install for dMC affect dMC only and are not system-wide. The WMA 9 codec from codec central does not come with the system codec, that's available as a separate download from that same page. All the other WMA codecs there come with the system codec that has its installer triggered after the dMC codec installation, if you follow that installer, you will be installing a system codec that modifies/overwrites any previous version of the WMA system codec.

Install the WMA version 8 codec and cancel the WMA system codec installer that comes up afterwards.
