    FLAC playback "skipping"

XP, 12.1 Reference, FLAC Release 8, VLC 0.8.6b

i am having an issue after ripping my CD's into FLAC & playing them back on VLC. about 2 seconds into the song there will be a very noticeable skip. all of my rips were AR certified. so i am hoping it's just an issue with VLC and my actual rips are okay. has anybody else had a similar problem or can offer any advice?

a side note: same situation as above but ripped into mp3 variable (highest quality) instead, & they do not skip at all.

If you convert your FLAC files to mp3 VBR, do they still skip?

clever idea, can't believe i didnt think of that. i converted 1 of the FLAC's to a mp3 variable & there was no skip. so i guess it's VLC afterall?

        Re: FLAC playback "skipping"

Seems to be VLC or at least their decoding routines. If you strip all tags from your FLAC file (using the "ID Tag Update" utility codec here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=13108), do they still skip in VLC? note that this will delete the tags, so you should probably copy your file and then strip the tags.

If I remember rightly it might be VLC which rewrote the FLAC library, intead of using the standard one everyone uses.
