Converter no longer works in Vista

My dbpoweramp converter stopped working this past week. I did receive some MS updates but most everything is behaving normal in Vista (I use the term normal losely as Vista was released a year too early, too many nusiances and bugs IMHO).

I removed dbpa and cleaned my registry, downloaded 12.1 and installed. Same behavior, the GUI comes up and I can select the files I wish to change and the actual converter box appears. No matter what format I select the application finishes in about a second and I have a zero byte file created in the original directory.

I have tried obvious such as disabling all virus/firewall/malware protection. No errors are generated as there is nothing in the event logs.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

What formats are you converting from/to? What settings are you using? What are the specs (channels, frequency, bits/bitrate) of your source files?

Mostly FLAC to MP3. I leave all dbpa advanced settings at default. Thanks in advance for your assistance. I tried converting to SHN and get the same thing.

FLAC Properties are 2 channels (stereo), sample rate 44.1 khz, sample size 16 bit, bit rate 1,411 bps.

Click the "List & Rename" button to see the final filenames.

Check you are not running any dsp effects.

The list/rename files are okay as they simply have different file extensions and I have no DSP effects installed.

Was working and stopped after last round of windows Vista updates to the best of my knowledge. Ready to go back to XP.

Try complete dbpoweramp uninstall, reboot computer and install fresh.

Extremely fustrating! I did a clean remove of the app and all codecs. I then rebooted, cleaned the registry to be sure no pieces remained. I then proceeded to install the dma reference upgrade I purchase hoping that would resolve the issue.

Still decodes in zero seconds but only on 1 CPU.

Re: Converter no longer works in Vista

Certain lossless formats will always use 1 CPU as the bottleneck is the hard disk, not CPU.

Switch on the debug mode (in dBpoweramp configuration) and do one conversion and post the results please.

                  Thanks Spoon,

I did a complete wipe of the system and attempted to install XP instead of Vista. Hardware did not allow me. So I did a fresh install of Vista. Same results. Here is the debug information you requested.

Thanks in advance for your help.

                  Regards,
                  Dave

The FLAC file says it contains 0 samples, have you tried a different program such as flac frontend to decode? they might be corrupted.

                        Evening Spoon,

Third time was the charm. I wiped my Vista system attempting to put XP on and of course the HW wouldn't allow it. Anyway, another clean install of Vis%#(&^ and then a drive failure (had RAID 0 Striped) forced me to replace a drive. May have been going bad although I never received any SMART alerts.

Paired them back as Raid 1 (I learn from my mistakes), reinstalled and all works well. Really love the batch convert. Kudos to your patience.

Awesome product! Now if it only worked on an Apple which WILL BE MY NEXT SYSTEM all would be fine!

                        BR,
                        Dave

Run dMC in Parallels or another VM program or use Boot Camp

As for SMART alerts... I've heard multiple times that SMART alerts are not a reliable way of determining upcoming hard drive failure.
