    "Examining Source & Overwrite Check"???

    Hi

Just got a question, what does dMC 12 do when it says "Examining Source & Overwrite Check" before it actually starts encoding?

I have noticed that the step quite some time before the actual encoding begins (it can sometimes take about 10 minutes on a standard MP3 song). I dunno how improtant this "new" step is to the file conversion, but i must say it's my biggest let down in using dMC 12. The reason i liked dMC so much was due to its fast encoding (even when applying many DSPs), it always used to encode faster than the actual length of the audio file. However since dMC the encoding times are now at least twice the length of the audio file.

There are times when i need to quickly convert a audio file, in the past this was no problem but with version 12 it's not as much a pleasure anymore.

    Thanks In Advance

Personally, it now only takes a long time when I am encoding a lot of songs, with one song it is instant. What are your system specs?

It reads the ID Tags from the source file, 10 minutes is silly, it should take 10 mili seconds.

What type of drive are you encoding to and from? An internal drive, an external drive, or a network drive?

Wow, 256 megs of ram. I had forgotten that windows can run on that little of ram.

I would say you need more ram, I think the windows kernel/core processes use 300-400 megs for themself. You should consider getting at least 512 ram, if not 1 gig.

I have 2 GIGS of ram and even that is not enuff sometimes!

well its never taken 10 milli seconds for me, so i dunno whats wrong. In answer to ltdata's question: im converting from my internal drive. Ive never had it coinverting this slow until r12. (ps: sorry for the lack of line breaks in this post. Im posting via wap on my mobile phone)

Are you running any DSP effects, on some conversions it can still say overwriting check when doing the DSP.

Hey, sorry i've been really busy recently and had forgotten about this thread.

Yes, i do run a few DSPs. The one i often use are...
                  • Delete Destination On Error
                  • Remove Silence
                  • ReplayGain
                  • Import Album Art thingy

thats about the only ones i use at the moment. The Remove Silence i've only started using recently, however even without using it i still had the long "Examining Source & Overwrite Check" message.

If you don't use any DSP effects, does it still pause on the overwrite message?

Yep, i still get pauses, even with no DSPs

Where are you converting to and from? Are the source and destination both on your local hard drives or are you converting to a network drive?
