    Encoding with Fraunhofer Stereo

    Hello,

    This is my first post.

Please, let me know if it is possible to rip and encode to MP3 using Fraunhofer Stereo. I do not see this option when I use the Fraunhofer encoder and Encspot shows the file as joint stereo.

When ripping and encoding with Lame, I see the Stereo option.

    Thanks,

Is there a particular reason you want Stereo instead of Joint Stereo?

      Thank you for your feedback.

      I was told that:

1- Stereo has better channel separation than Joint Stereo

2- Joint stereo produces smaller files by looking for frames where there is no or little audible separation in the channels.

3- Joint stereo is a good compromisse for mid and high frequencies.

4- For dance music I loose 50% dynamics encoding with Joint Stereo. I use the Razer and the Gigaport AG soundcard.

What I need is to rip dance music from original cds for professional DJing and Jazz tracks for my pleasure of listening to music. To create my MP3 files I like to use CBR, 320 kbps , quality high when encoding with Fraunhofer and Slow( High quality), Freq 44.1 Khz, channels 2 , Stereo Cd, when encoding with Lame.

      Thanks again !

For modern codecs, Joint Stereo should be used almost all the time, it only got a bad name because early implementations were bad, later ones are not.

          Thank you for your response.

Please, I have two final questions:

1- If I rip from the original cd using dbpoweramp and encode to MP3 using CBR / 320 kbps, what is the best encoder to get the best dynamics/audio
          quality? Fraunhofer or Lame?

2- I have the original Fraunhofer version 1.2.0.63 installed under Windows > System 32. This version has stereo support. Is it also possible to use it with dbpoweramp ? I would like to make some tests.

Well, dbpowerAmp is a software I was waiting for a long time. I will buy it right now.

I cannot knowledgeable comment upon your first question.

I believe that you can use your earlier Fraunhofer codec with dMC using the CLI Encoder, but this will require you being comfortable with using a command line interface.

If you try this, I'd be interested in hearing about your results.

            Best wishes,
            Bill

At 320 Kbps you will not be able to tell Lame and Fraunhofer apart.

                  Hi Bill,

I am sorry for the delayed response.

I was told that I can not use the l3codecp.acm because it is not an executive codec and also that the command prompt would not have AMG tag support.

I am just a user trying to understand the complicated world of ripping and encoding. dbpoweramp was the best program I found after trying everything !
