transcoding ac3

i am using vista
i have installed the directshow filter
and configured it to accept ac3 along with mka
for some reason dmc doesnt accept the ac3 file even though i have all the filters installed

therefore i put the ac3 in an mka file
the decoding test worked fine
but nothing else works
it doesnt convert to wav, it doesnt convert to wma

i get the following error

Error converting to Wave, 'G:\1\1.mka' to 'G:\1\1.wav'
Wave Encoder: Error Converting from 'Format Tag: 65534 Channels: 6 Bits per Sample: 16 Samples Per Second: 48000 Bytes Per Second: 576000 Block Align: 12 CB Size: 22 Extensible Sub-Format: 65534' to 'Format Tag: 65534 Channels: 6 Bits per Sample: 16 Samples Per Second: 48000 Bytes Per Second: 576000 Block Align: 12 CB Size: 22 Extensible Sub-Format: 1'

i dont understand any of the stuff above
could someone please help

What settings did you pick for the WAV conversion? What are the specs (frequency, channels, bits/bitrate) for the original file?

original file : 48khz, 6 channel, 448 bitrate

for the wave conversion, i left everything "as source"

I think the problem is the 6-channel file, which I believe the ac3 filter cannot handle, hence you having to re-encode it to a .mka file. However, I'm not sure if the DirectShow Decoder you have installed for .mka probably isn't able to handle 6-channels either.

Can you encode the file to a 2-channel WAV?

no

and graphedit doesnt except any ac3 files either so theres probably some problem with reading ac3 files

i m using ac3filter to decode the file
dmc decoder test says that there are 6 channels
everywhere else the file works fine
i managed to work it in windows media encoder but its too cumbersome and i d rather prefer dbpoweramp

any other ideas?
