question on nero aac encoder quality

Do you think the nero aac encoder will produce files with the same quality as the itunes encoder? for example it's well known that with mp3 different encoders produced quite different quality encodes. how about with mp4? do we expect the same behaviour? if so any idea how nero rates compared to itunes?

They are quite similar, although iTunes has a slight edge.

Thanks for that. One more thing occured to me...
The ipod gets much a better battery life playing AAC i hear compared to other formats (like Apple Lossless) due to some hardware decoding chips.
Encloding to AAC with this nero encoder will leave the battery life unchanged?

Yes, lossless only has less battery life because the disk drive has to supply 5x or more data.

The technical reason that lossless has battery life is that the buffer/cache in the drive can hold more small lossy files or less large lossless files. Therefore, as Spoon said, the HDD has to spin up more often to supply new data.
