Converting FLAC for 2G Ipod

Hello People!

My english is not the best. I hope you understand anyways.

I have a 2G Ipod that doesnt support ALAC (Apple Lossless) encoded songs.
I also have a lot of FLAC files and would like them to play with as good quality as possible in both Itunes and on my Ipod.

I had a hard time finding information about what formats is supported by 1G and 2G Ipods, (I think they both use the same firmware?) therefore im not sure how to convert with best success and what codecs to use.

What format would you suggest for this situation?
The filesize is not an issue. I just want the best quality supported by my ipod.

I have most of the codecs installed already and uses Dbpoweramp 12.

If your iPod does not support ALAC, then you will want to rip to m4a VBR at the maximum size. Basically, drag the slider all the way to the right to get maximum bitrate.

If maximum bitrate VBR doesn't work, you could try lowering the bitrate slider until the files play, or you could try CBR.

It worked fine with highest bitrate!

But after some experimenting I decided to go with AIFF instead. No loss and ability to associate with front cover. It worked fine with my ipod as well!
Just to bad Apple don't support FLAC in Itunes and wont upgrade the firmwares for older generations of Ipod.

I will definently go with VBR max bitrate when ripping less demanding music. the quality is really great and file size fully acceptable.
