Wav to Lossless - no tag info in Itunes?

I would like to transfer my Wave file to Itunes in a LOSSLESS format but I lose all TAG info. Originally used Musicmatch to rip CDs.
I've tried FLAC, WMA and APPLE LOSSLESS.
Only converting the files to MP3 with Musicmatch retains the tag info?

    Any advise?

This is because MusicMatch uses a proprietary method to tag their WAV files that only their program can read.

So it sounds like my 4000+ song 'archive' in wav format is pretty much usless unless i use musicmatch and stick to MP3 only!
Any suggestions how to rescue my collection?
If I were to start from scratch (OOOUCH) what lossless format woud you recommend?
      Which ripper? which tag format?

I would recommend either FLAC or Monkey's Audio (ape), personally. Use Vorbis Comments for FLAC and probably rip to the medium (5 I believe) setting. For ape, use the medium setting and APEv2 (default for dMC) tags.

As for converting your music to another lossless format, it doesn't look like MusicMatch supports any other lossless formats. Therefore, you could either use dMC to convert your music and have to re-tag everything after it is converted.
Alternatively, you could do the painful option of re-ripping your entire CD collection using dMC. This option would also allow you to use AccurateRip to make sure your rips are accurate for CDs in the database and dMC itself could tell you if the rip was secure or not (if using PowerPack or above).

dMC will do this automatically. However, be aware that after converting to mp3, you will lose quality that cannot be regained. Thereby, converting your mp3 to FLAC or ALAC will gain you nothing except wasted space.

All you need to get dMC to convert to FLAC and ALAC is install dMC, the FLAC and the ALAC codec.

sorry, I was not very clear,
what I meant to say is that I would convert all my Wav files to ALAC and FLAC, at this point there would be no TAG info... then take the same files in MP3 (which I already spent countless hrs tagging properly) and, SOMEHOW? exract the tag info from the MP3s and transfer it to the corresponding FLAC/ALAC files. Hopefully not having to do it manually one field at a time!

To do that, you would have to write a script for dMC that extracts the tag data from one file and puts it on another. As to how you would do this, I don't know.
