windows general protection fault when converting .ra to .mp3

Using win98se and get this error using dMC r12.0 and r12.1 with a registered mp3 License and Power Pack. Installed the DirectShow decoder along w/ the Real Alternative media player. Still have Real Player installed. I'm able to listen to a .ra file using Windows Media Player. Installed the win98 updates under the win95 section. Have done the full uninstall and reinstall of dMC involving regedit.

Here's the exact syntax of the error:
MUSICCONVERTER caused a general protection fault
    in module ATI2DRAB.DRV at 0007:00002236.

The ATI2DRAB.DRV is my video driver so not sure what that's all about. Have updated that also w/ no help.

I believe what I'm trying to do (.ra --> .mp3) is possible w/ the DirectShow codec installed.

Yes the video card driver is crashing, don't know why though.
