CD Drives not recognised after ripping 1 CD

I've got a new computer and am experiencing an interesting problem. I rip one CD OK then when I put in another CD the drive is not recognised. Windows Media Player doesn't recognise it either - it just locks ! Windows Explorer doesn't recognise the CD drive either. If I reboot it's OK - for ripping one CD then I have to keep rebooting to get my CD drives recognised. If I just close and reopen the programme it tells me I have no CD drives !!!

    Any ideas anyone?

    Many thanks in advance, Colin

How old is the CD drive? This sounds like it could be the CD drive failing.

There are no problems with the CD drives - the computer is one month old - it's a high spec music computer - all other programmes such as Nero, Windows Media Player, Windows Explorer work perfectly - it's only after ripping one CD that the drive recognition problem arises.

Try Options and setting Communication to Windows Internal.

          thanks spoon,

At least when I restart the programme it recognises that I have CD drives on my computer but it's not reading the CD !!!

Hey, that seems to have done the trick. I've rebooted - now the programme is working OK - recognising my drives AND allowing me to rip more than one CD each bootup. Thanks spoon - can you explain why your suggestion should have worked - I always like to know why things work - or at least could you explain what your suggestion was for - in simple non esoteric computer speak please.

Thanks for that - I'm a happy bunny again :smile2:

colliedug: What version of Windows are you using? Are you running as an administrator?

Just a totally different way of talking to the cd drive.

Hi LtData - Windows XP Home - I'm not running as administrator.

Hi Spoon - very un-esoteric answer - cheers.

Thanks for your swift and very useful responses.
