core convertor crash - wma to mp3

    Hi,
I'm trying to convert WMA files to 160kbps VBR mp3 lame files using a registered version of dbpoweramp (R12) on XP Pro x32.

    I've run the registry file
Mp3 Lame Encoder: Forcing Frequency or Channels (on advanced) can crash CoreConverter Affected: Release 12.0 Fixed in R12.1 http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm

I still get core convertor crashing for every file.

I've looked through threads here: I am, however, not changing the frequency so I can't find anything that applies. It is just a straight forward conversion which fails.

    How do I resolve this?
    Thanks

What are the specs for your WMA files?
Do any of them have any unusual characters in the tags, such as a "/", "\", etc?
What are the filenames of the files it fails on?

It does this for every file, every name. Here's a screenshot of a typical configuration:

      edit:
      and here's the conversion settings

Does this board allow pictures to be posted directly?

      Thanks, Robin

No, users can't post pictures directly, you can only link to pictures you uploaded somewhere else.

Quick question: what is drive X:? Is it a mapped network drive? If it is, this might explain your crashing, as dMC behaves oddly when used with mapped network drives.

          Hia,
In this shot it is indeed a mapped drive, but that's just because I took the shot from my main machine, not my music one (it doesn't have photoshop/ftp software etc on it).
The conversion was run on a local drive on the machine.

If it is of any help, I've tried some other things to narrow down the problem:

Converting WMA to flac files: works fine

Converting MP3 files to MP3 files works fine.

Converting flac files to MP3 files works fine.

It is specifically converting WMA to MP3 which fails

What if you, for instance, convert WMA --> WAV --> mp3? Does this work?

Out of curiosity, where did the WMA files come from?

                Well!

I thought the next obvious thing to do would be 'try a different machine'

I used a virtual PC which had also had v11 on previously. I uninstalled v11 and codecs, then installed v12.

                It worked fine.

I went back to original PC. Uninstalled everything. Installed again. Restared. Works fine*

So, I can only think (should anyone have the same problem), uninstalling *everything* (ie not installing codecs without removing v11 ones first) then installing v12 (and codecs) seems to resolve problem.

I'm afraid I've no idea what part of the v11 remains when 12 is installed over it, but at least I know uninstalling the lot resolves it.

Thanks for your time & prompt replies.

                * I say fine - it is as good as useless as eveything appears in one folder, but as soon as I get my upgrade to from 'powerpack' to 'reference' from Spoon, I'll have the folder functionality back

In our testing the registry fix can on some files still crash. R12.1 will be in beta next week that fixes this.

                    Indeed,
I've downloaded my upgraded reference version so I can retain directory structure, and now it crashes for every WMA file again :(

I'll just abandon doing anything until 12.1 comes out.
