    uninstall does not work

i want to remove dbpoweramp from my laptop. i went into start, programs, dbpoweramp music convertor and uninstall. the scrip ran and removed some things but still left the menu and a few programs on the hard drive. i then went into add remove programs and removed the ten or so dbpoweramp items manually (eg codec blah blah). now there is nothing left of dbpoweramp in add remove programs but still i see an icon to C:\Windows\system32\SpoonUninstall.exe on the hard drive which runs but does nothing. i guess i should manually delete this... what else please?

ps: this buggy uninstaller needs a lot of work! for shareware its vital the uninstaller works. sometimes there is a remove all option on a menu after running uninstall, otherwise that is the default behaviour. then all dbpoweramp components and start menu items and files and directories and registry entries should be deleted in one hit. leaving a bunch of things around after uninstall will contribute to a very bad reputation.

If your account has removed adminstrator rights, then the program will not be able to remove certain items, because windows does not let it.

If you have installed any of the previous beta versions, then they should have been uninstalled before installing any release versions, as with beta versions items are often changed which can do as you mentioned, but that is the basis of beta versions.

Most things aren't removed until after a reboot. I assume you have done this since then.

I am not sure if Vista's "Administrator"-level accounts allow you to remove a file that is in the System32 directory. Does a UAC box pop-up during the uninstall?

Even as admin, vista will stop a program accessing the system unless the UAC popup up asking for permission.

Yes of course, I allow it access when the popup comes up... but it is still not deleting the start menu icons and the executable listed above.

                Re: uninstall does not work

The installer stays, if you install any Install shield program then install shield remains, install any Windows Installer then that stays...

The menu items as I already mentioned, if you have installed any beta version then the menu items normally change between beta and release, hence the uninstall cannot uninstall. Just right click on dBpoweramp Music Converter in the start menu and select delete.

                  ok thanks

Ok I didn't realise the installer executable always stayed for all install shield apps. And I will manually delete the start menu stuff. Thanks, sorry to be a pain.
