    How to install codec?!

    hi, newbie here!
i have aac files (Nokia Music Manager generated and they skip on my 6230i!!) that i want to convert to mp3. i've downloaded dMCv12 and it's installed. i've downloaded the aac-encoder and m4a codec exe files but i can't install them. i don't consider myself to be that thick but what do i have to do to install these files (on my desktop at the moment) and convert from aac to mp3?
    many thanks in advance.

Just to be sure, you downloaded and installed the codecs from the beta section of this forum and then downloaded the Nero zip file containing the .exes? You should just open the installers and they install into your dMC directory

LtData: No, I downloaded the aac codecs from this address: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central-m4a.htm on the Codec Central page.

And that page in turn linked you to a post in the forum here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=12005 correct? Then you downloaded the m4a codec and the AAC encoder?
What happens when you try to install them?

LtData: I get a 'not a valid Win32 application' message. I don't have any spyware or windows defender running, just Avast antivirus if that has anything to do with it. OS is Win XP SP2

Try redownloading the installers after clearing the temporary internet files for your browser. For IE, this option is in Tools --> Internet Options

LtData: that worked, the original downloads must have been both corrupt.. happily converting to mp3. thanks for your clear advice.
bty, its consuming 100% CPU - working with BES to control the usage - is there a better way? (sorry i know this is not the place for this query!)

                Re: BES

I find "Process Tamer" to be somewhat nicer.

If you are running a trial or registered version of PowerPack or Reference, click the down-arrow on the conversion window to adjust the priority. If you are ripping a CD, click the down-arrow beside the Options button to adjust the priority.

Note that adjusting the priority will still use 100% of the CPU, but it will allow other programs to take preference on the CPU

just wanted say thanks to both LtData and brendan for your advice - Process Tamer is smoother and the priority setting change worked.
