    Registration Problems !

I have today purchased the registered version of the dBpoweramp Music Converter Power Pack & MP3 licence
and downloaded the registered software and AMG licence from the links provided in the registration email.

I tried to install the registered version of dBpoweramp over the previously installed version (as advised in the instructions) but the software automatically uninstalls the previous version and then restarts my PC. I installed the registered version and the AMG licence.

However, in the dBpoweramp configuration, the option to "register" the product is still showing. Additionally, I cannot convert FLAC files to MP3 using VBR at a bitrate of more than 240kbps !

The previous version of dBpoweramp on my PC that I used before I rebuilt my system (and had to re-register the software) would convert MP3 at VBR quality with a bitrate of 320kbps.

Am I doing something wrong or has the software changed ?

    Thankyou

    Re: Registration Problems !

You installed the version of dMC as an administrator? Does dBpoweramp Configuration (Start --> Programs --> dBpoweramp Music Converter --> Configuration --> dBpoweramp Configuration) say registered or unregistered?

When you say you cannot convert with a bitrate of more than 240kbps, do you mean ths slider will not go above 240kbps? Click the advanced button and change the frequency drop-down box to "As Source".

      Thankyou for the response LtData.

Yes, I installed the software as Administrator as I am the only person that uses the computer. Should I create another user and install it that way ?

The Registration Status on the left of of the Versions Tab in dBpower Configuration states :

      mp3 License & Power Pack:registered

but on the right the "register" tab is still red and turns into a grey button when pressed.

The maximum bitrate the slider will go to is 240kbps when the frequency drop-down box is set to "as source". It will only go to 320kbps if I select ABR, CBR or Free Format.

I tried to batch convert 15 FLAC files at VBR 240kbps and received the following error message :

"md5 did not match encoded data file is corrupt"

I've never had any previous problems with dBpower converter in the past so cannot understand why I have now. All I have done is to load the software onto a new system I have built.

It sounds like your install may be corrupt. You might want to try a total uninstall as described here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=6828

Then reinstall your registered version and all of your codecs and see if it works.

          Thankyou for the response LtData.

I uninstalled the dBpoweramp Converter as described in the thread you posted and then re-installed the software.

The problems I am having are still exactly the same !
          Thanks again.

Are you sure that your 15 FLAC files are not corrupt?

              Thankyou for the post LtData.

Out of frustration in trying to sort this problem out, I have re-installed Windows. However, the problems are still exactly the same.

I cannot convert any files to MP3 using VBR bitrate above 240kbps and i get an error message everytime I try to convert at this rate. I have tried converting many different tracks but always get a similar message to the one that follows :-

              Error converting to mp3 (Lame), 'E:\FLAC\FLAC\Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet - Remaster\Livin' On A Prayer.flac' to 'E:\FLAC\FLAC\Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet - Remaster\Livin' On A Prayer.mp3'
              Encountered 'FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_READ_METADATA' in FLAC File 'E:\FLAC\FLAC\Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet - Remaster\Livin' On A Prayer.flac'
md5 did not match decoded data, file is corrupt.

Your further advice would be much appreciated.

              Thankyou

Nothing to do with registrations, but rather how the flac files are.

Are the mp3 files created? or are they very small (ie contain no audio)?

                  Thankyou for the post Spoon.

Sometimes the MP3 files are created but only a few seconds of the track.

I finally managed to convert 14 new FLAC tracks to MP3 without a problem but only at 242kbps bit rate. The track properties after converting show the following :-

                  Sample Rate : 44.1khz
                  Sampls Size : 16 bit
                  Bit Rate : 242kbps

Audio Quality : Very High (Lossy)
                  Encoder : Lame (3.97)
Encoder Settings : Variable Bit Rate -V 0 (Extreme)

Why can I not encode with VBR at 320kbps ? The maximum on the slider is only 242kbps !

                  Thanks again.

If you look in dBpoweramp Configuration >> Codecs >> Adavanced

there is an option to carry on decoding a flac file if an error is encountered (it looks like some of your flac files might be courrpted).

I found the "carry on decoding a flac file if an error is encountered". Thankyou Spoon.

Does the fact that I cannot encode FLAC files at a bit rate any higher than 320kbps mean that I have a problem with my install ?

                        Thanks again.

The LAME in dMC does not go up to 320kbps in VBR. From here: http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=LAME
                          Code:
Switch Target Kbit/s Bitrate range kbit/s
                           -V 0 --vbr-new 245 220...260
If you want 320kbps, use CBR or ABR.
